During my summer vacation, post junior year of high school, I took on an independent project for my boss at Concept Building. My boss came to me with the idea for a custom outdoor bar he wanted me to build. The plan was based around a granite countertop he already had. Originally he wanted it to all be built out of wood, but I convinced him that I should build it out of steel because of its superior properties. During the building process, I created a model of the frame using google sketch up, worked with a local metal company to have all the pieces pre-cut, and then fabricated the structure. I then had it powder coated, installed a mahogany front fascia, completed the installation of hardware, and installed the countertop.
